TheStudio Glasgow Awarded Gold ECOSmart Accreditation

thestudioglasgow has announced achieving an ECOsmart GOLD rating for its environmental impact.

Demonstrating its longstanding commitments to sustainability, the organisation has created extensive measures to embrace environmentally conscious business practices across its Glasgow venue.

Awarded to hotels and meeting venues demonstrating an eco-friendly approach, the Greengage Travel & Event Solutions ECOsmart rating is an industry-standard accreditation. From food and waste management to energy conservation and social responsibility, each venue is assessed on a range of practices and initiatives that contribute to a sustainable and environmentally friendly business.

We’ve always been keen to explore ways in which we can continue to reduce the impact we have on the environment. One of the key factors in our decision to apply for the accreditation was the focus that Glasgow as a city has put into sustainability, this has been evidenced in the commitments made in the lead up to COP26, which we fully supported. This leaves a huge sustainable legacy not only for our venue but for the city as a whole.

thestudio has worked with Greengage to identify the key elements and initiatives that can be adapted in order to benefit the environment and has taken on partnerships with a range of local organisations in Glasgow to eliminate food waste and provide support to social enterprises on a mission.

We’ve also worked to develop supportive relationships with social enterprise in the city, including Social Bite whereby we utilise their services to cater for our delegates and also support them with event spaces every month for team meetings and workshops. Social Bite is on a mission to end homelessness, and on average each year they distribute 140,000 items of food and hot drinks to those in need. As a business they also commit to 1 in 4 of their team coming from a background of homelessness – we are so pleased to be able to support this amazing social enterprise, and help to make a difference in the local area.

ECOsmart is an industry leader in the field of environmental accreditation and operates a directory of the UK’s leading green venues, each committed to minimising their impact on the planet. thestudio joins the directory with a gold rating, following its audit with the team at Greengage earlier this year.

thestudio venues have shown such agility and passion to implement some excellent sustainable initiatives even around obstacles such as not owning their own buildings. thestudio’s work within the local community is very inspiring especially the partnership with Foodinate which has given over 2,800 hot meals to those who need it. We are so pleased Studio Venues chose ECOsmart for the sustainability accreditation and have achieved gold; we look forward to welcoming them to our sustainability community and working with them on their journey.
