About this venue
Situated in the heart of the West End, Glasgow University Union is a unique venue rich in history.
With its grand architecture and original period features, the building possesses its own identity and charm but has the versatility to allow you to incorporate your own personal touch.
When you arrive at the Union you are greeted by our Porter and Events Team at the main entrance with grey stone stairs that take you to two of our main halls.
On the left hand side is our Drawing Room which was originally our old shop and smoke room. It’s been transformed into an elegant coffee shop during the day and a relaxing space for drinks and dinner on weekends and evenings.
Across from our Drawing Room is our Dining Hall which is one of our largest and most popular spaces. With its original wooden panelling it is the perfect setting for a dinners and evening receptions.
Continuing on you can take the lift or stairs to our second level where we have an array of awards on display in our foyer along with our president’s board which lists some of the Union’s past student presidents.
On this level you will find our second largest room, our Debates Chamber which still hosts regular Debates. Live acts such as Arcade Fire and Belle & Sebastian have graced this room’s large stage and the spring board flooring is perfect for ceilidhs and dancing. To accompany the Debates Chamber we have the Reading Room bar across the foyer which has Chesterfield couches for guests to sit back and relax.
Whether you are hosting a formal dinner or relaxed drinks reception we want to make your event here with us one to remember. Our staff recognises the requirements of each client and welcomes the opportunity to customise any event to meet your specifications.
