The Anchor Line

Marking special occasions in style, the finest celebrations are known to be held in The Anchor Line. The elegant, timeless setting feels special, like celebrating in a 1920s grand New York hotel. Corks pop, glasses clink and the pianist can be heard just so over the hum of conversation and laughter.

The original booking offices of The Anchor Line shipping company, the 1905 building has been extensively restored to enhance the grand period features. The University of Glasgow Archive services carried out extensive research on the company as a core part of the city’s heritage and much can be found adorning the walls around the restaurant.

It’s the place to go for cocktails in the city, with an elegant central bar to people watch from. Step through to the dining rooms and the menu has clear influence from both sides of the Atlantic. Think Oysters Rockefeller, Lobster Frites or prime Scottish matured beef caramelised on the grill.

We have a choice of private dining areas in The Anchor Line:

  • Henderson room: up to 40 guests.
  • Donaldson room: up to 60 guests.
  • Combine both spaces: for up to 100 guests.

  • An Anchor Line private dining room with a dark, ring-patterned carpet. The ceiling is white with plaster work beading and a central ceiling rose around the modern cylindrical light fitting. The room is filled with small dark dining tables; with chairs, benches and booths in red and taupe leather arranged around them. The far wall has a wide, wooden, concertina door, most of its width, it is closed off to separate the room. A wide, heavy, brown curtain covers much of the left wall suggests a window.

Large mirrors cover much of the right hand wall above a plush bench against which are 4 small dining tables, laid with glasses and silverware. A large, oval table, surrounded by 8 studded green lather dining chairs takes up the central floor space. A few stairs can be seen leading to a further narrow dining space, the banister and railing along the half wall are brass and polished.
